Job Description:
Job Title: Ventricular Assist Device Coordinator Profession:
Registered Nurse Specialty: CVICU Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Day and
Night Hours per Shift: 8 Hours Experience: 3-4 years of
progressively more responsible job-related experience in a tertiary
facility License: RN - Registered Nurse State Licensure required
Certifications: CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation required
within 90 days Must-Have: VAD Certification preferred within 1.5
years Description: Oversees, evaluates, and directs activities
related to managing all durable VADs. Assures adherence to
standards set by regulatory bodies. Implements and assures
adherence to current clinical standards for VAD-supported patients.
Evaluates, formulates, and implements policies and procedures.
Coordinates the monitoring of patients with ventricular assist
devices during procedures and operations. Collaborates with
Materials Management and Equipment Technicians to maintain device
inventory, tracking, and recall responses. Coordinates outpatient
clinic evaluations of patients supported with a ventricular assist
device, including data collection and evaluations. Documents and
maintains records and charts, and reports patients' conditions to
appropriate personnel. Records progress notes at appropriate
intervals in the electronic medical record. Collaborates with
research teams on clinical trials related to ventricular assist
devices, including obtaining research consents and coordinating
tests and procedures. Working with clinical managers and industry
clinicians, provides extensive training for hospital personnel.
Content is defined by role and scope of practice. Works with the
team to develop order sets, nursing flowsheets, and reference
charts for VAD patients and clinical staff. Contributes to VAD
database entries and participates in developing presentations and
manuscripts regarding patient care. Evaluates patients and
families' educational needs and develops appropriate teaching
programs. Provides training for patients and caregivers.
Collaborates with industry representatives on behalf of the
institution and physicians. Establishes, maintains, and
participates in the VAD call schedule. Maintains professional
growth and development through attendance at seminars and workshops
and through reading scientific literature.
