Job Description Job Description Description: SCHOOL PROFILE The SEED School of Maryland is a statewide, public, college-preparatory boarding school that opened in August 2008. Since then, the School has enrolled 400 sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, and eleventh-grade boys and girls and will grow to educate and board these students in grades six through twelve. The SEED School is an extraordinary educational opportunity for students across the state to receive a tuition-free, college-preparatory, boarding education. The SEED School of Maryland combines a rigorous and engaging academic curriculum with life skills and enrichment activities to provide students with a thoughtfully balanced learning and living experience. SUMMARY Under the leadership of the Assistant Principal and the Director of Academics the Teacher is to work with and teach middle and/or high school students to ensure their success in a college preparatory program. The Teacher provides effective instruction and support in curricular areas for which employed; utilizes various instructional resources and technologies; demonstrates knowledge of the teaching/learning process; develops and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of a diverse student population; maintains contact and communication with parents and Student Life staff; and works effectively with administrators, colleagues, and all members of the school community. General Summary: The English Teacher (grades 6-12) will design, develop, and deliver quality lesson plans and curricula that adhere to national and school guidelines. Providing suitable assessments and delivering helpful feedback to students, parents, and other teachers. Essential Duties: Planning and instructing lessons in English Enforcing classroom management and school administrative policies Assessing and accommodating students' learning needs and styles Using technology to deliver lessons and other educational materials Communicating effectively with students, parents, and staff Preparing students for standardized ELA and post-secondary entrance tests Grading student's assignments, tests, and exams Evaluate each student’s progress in math knowledge and skills. Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, and supplies; maintains required inventory records. Supervise daily and check homework, ensure students’ academic progress, and serve as a primary point of contact for parents. Regularly assess student mastery of key skills and concepts and use this data to differentiate instruction to meet student needs. Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities. Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator(s) to develop the method by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines. Performs other comparable duties of a like or similar nature apparent or as assigned. Requirements: Qualifications: The ELA teacher will meet all qualifications and behavior standards as set by the State of Maryland authority. In accordance with certification requirements and performance expectations, all classroom teachers shall meet the following employment criteria. MSDE Certification in English preferred or ability to obtain a conditional license. Successful completion of a background check Bachelor's Degree
